Pioneer Works joins forces with the city’s most adventurous jazz festival to host an unforgettable evening featuring a rare performance by Meshell Ndegeocello. A bass player above all else, Ndegeocello brings her signature warmth, depth, and groove to everything she touches. Known for her mercurial artistry and fearless leaps across funk, soul, jazz, and rock, she remains a defining force in contemporary music. Following her transformative 2021 Brand New Heavies Benefit performance and two consecutive Grammy wins for Best Alternative Jazz Album, she returns to Pioneer Works this March 29th with support from Justin Hicks. 

Meshell Ndegeocello is the quintessential Winter Jazzfest artist—restlessly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and fiercely dedicated to chronicling the experiences of Black Americans through song. Across projects that braid soul, jazz, and spoken word, her work radiates the creative impulse to bring joy, pain, birth, death and all life’s events in words and music—always unflinching, and deeply grooving.

NYC Winter Jazzfest is a dynamic catalyst for the future of jazz, showcasing a wide spectrum of innovative artists while championing the music’s role as a force for cultural and social change. Now over two decades strong, the festival is a vital platform for emerging talent, offering artists meaningful exposure through alignment with the APAP conference and access to a global network of industry professionals who attend every year.
