3ETV

In 1966, 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering brought artists, engineers and scientists together in New York for a collaboration that introduced closed-circuit television, fibre optics, infrared cameras and wireless transmitters into live performance for the first time. It kickstarted nearly two decades of broadcast experimentation through E.A.T. (Experiments in Art and Technology). Today anyone with a phone can broadcast, dissolving the line between performer and audience, transmitter and receiver, democratised and on demand.

3ETV is an international collaboration between Somerset House Studios (London), HEK (House of Electronic Arts, Basel), M+ (Hong Kong), Onassis ONX (Athens/New York) & Pioneer Works (New York), a decentralised curated broadcast exploring how performance and technology have evolved in an always on world.

A bespoke 9 channel station will allow viewers to navigate their own viewing experience from any location, moving between commissioned artist responses and provocations, artworks, experimental shorts, archival material, and live capture of the one-off performances at 3 Evenings. HEK, M+, Onassis ONX and Pioneer Works have each curated their own 3ETV dedicated channel, presenting:

  • Charles Atlas, Tesseract, 2017
  • Tega Brain & Sam Lavigne, Melts Into Air, 2025
  • ESP TV, Work, 2017
  • Cameron Granger, Slay The Goblin, 2025
  • Jenson Leonard, Workflow, 2023
  • Jenson Leonard, Roko's Bassinet, 2025

During the three nights of 3 Evenings in London (October 16-18), remote audiences will also be able to view the performances at Wapping Hydraulic Power Station live from multiple angles via 3ETV, alongside the wider online programme. Wapping and 3ETV will become a networked space for the duration, with video works and performances broadcast into and out of the live event, creating a distinct but connected audience experience for in person and digital audiences alike.

Additional works are presented in collaboration with CIRFA, EMAP, Trisha Brown Archives, Nam June Paik Estates, and Julia Stoschek Foundation.
